Dinner is Served!

I've found the perfect way to procrastinate homework! COOKING!!!! Yay!

Again I turned to my new friend Super Cook and today's result is Double-Baked Broccoli Cheese Potatoes :D

So simple I didn't really measure anything
you need:
  • potatoes
  • milk
  • cheese
  • garlic salt (optional) **Garlic salt happens to be my favorite spice**
  • pepper
  • broccoli
  • butter
First bake the potatoes: clean them and poke holes and then make a small/shallow cut all the way around so that it's easier to cut them in half later, don't cut too deep as it will make the guts kind of.... hard. then either bake them in the oven or if you're impatient like me use the microwave.

while that's going on mix a little milk; roughly 1/3 c per 2 potatoes, two dollops of butter (hey, I didn't say this was a healthy meal :P ), finely chopped broccoli; about a stem per potato, 1/3c of cheese, pepper and other seasonings to taste.

when the potatoes are done baking carefully cut them in half and scoop the guts in with the cheese and broccoli mix and mash mash mash! once it's mixed scoop it back into the potato skins.

Place in the oven at 350 for about 15 min and enjoy!

and I really do mean enjoy, I loved them! plus they're totally affordable on a college budget, yay for starving student meals outside of top ramen!!!

Cooking! YAY!

Ok so I was bored and my class got canceled so I naturally decided to cook something, but alas, I had no idea what to cook so I turned to Google :D Happy 40th Anniversary Sesame Street BTW

Anyways I found a cool website called: Super Cook (www.supercook.com)
You tell the recipe engine what ingredients you have and it pulls up recipes with only those ingredients! Kinda fun :)

I came across Dutch Babies, read the instructions; looked easy enough, turned on some Owl City and set to work.

You need:
Preheat your oven to 425 and while you're waiting mix the salt, milk and flour until smooth.

add the sugar and eggs one at a time until each is blended well.

when the oven is warm melt the butter in your pan and when the butter is melted pour in the batter. Now you wait 25 min:
I literally sat on my kitchen floor looking through the oven door as my Dutch Babies baked, I'm such a little kid!
Once they finished I quickly opened the oven door only to get a blast of heat to the face and had to wait for the fog on my glasses to clear.
This is the result ^

after adding a little syrup the vote is in: I will certainly make these again and Griff will get to taste them :) plus they have the Carbs for quick energy and protein for muscle recovery (pretty much every meal includes chicken in one form or another for Griff).

Overall I would cook them for about 20 min and possibly use a smaller pan.

Details for those that would ask :)

So after that last post I realized that some of you may be really confused as to where Griff came from and all that stuff so I decided to tell you .... before you asked :) I'm great, I know ;)

Griff and I went to school together from the time he moved to Utah from Cali when he was about 14. I didn't really know him but I knew of him and always thought he was cute. In high school he had a girlfriend and I had a 'boyfriend' but we had some classes together and had plenty of opportunities to talk. We really got to know each other in our English class our senior year and dated a little after the year ended. I really do mean a little, he left shortly after graduation for his mission and I think we went on a grand total of 4 dates. We wrote back and forth for the two years that he was gone but he figured I'd be taken when he got back and I was scared to even consider dating him because he'd be so 'good' and I might not be at the same level.
Well I was taken when he got home but things weren't working out in that relationship and when it ended Griff was right there. We kept things simple at first, casual dates and hanging out for his birthday and then it accelerated like a rocket on it's way to the moon. (ok i realize how cheese that must sound but that's the best analogy I could come up with on the spot)
He's been teaching me Spanish and we read the scriptures in Spanish and English to help with the learning process. During fall football camp he'd call before going to bed and we'd read together over the phone. I love the little things we do together :)
For a while he'd travel back and forth from Salt Lake so that we could do things and when I could I'd drive up to see him after practice. I also got sick a few times and he'd come to see me and bring me medicine if we didn't have it, I loved the fact that every time he came he'd tell me how beautiful I was, I knew I didn't look good but it gave me one more reason to fall in love with him.
It wasn't long before we both knew that we would be getting married but we were both unsure if the other had an answer to that prayer yet. I finally moved back to Salt Lake and three days later we came to the conclusion that we both received the same answer and were definitely going to get married. Two days later classes started and my life became crazy! We talked to our families and set a date to be sealed in the Salt Lake Temple :) It became an official engagement on September 9th, 09/09/09.
Now we're finishing up wedding plans/going crazy trying to make wedding plans and still pass our classes.

Moral of the story: God moves in mysterious ways; neither one of us thought we'd be getting married this soon but when it's right it's right and it's best not to fight it.

The 4th of July and my favorite boy ever: Jack

So, today didn't go as originally planned but that's ok, life happens it's best not to fight it.

I've been with little Jack all day and he's been a cute little addition to my day. We had put him down for a nap and mom had left to take care of some things at my brothers apartment ( I'll explain in a min). He woke up screaming and was pointing around the guest bedroom/office I tried to figure out what was wrong but I couldn't so I did the next best thing and picked him and his goggy (Binky) and held him with me on the couch. He was soon sleeping in my lap and we both got an hour nap in the front room. I loved having him close and snuggled in my arms, I can't wait to have kids of my own someday and I'm going to miss him terribly when he goes to Ohio.
When he woke up for the second time he was crying and pointing again and we finally got it out of him that he wanted his mom, we showed him that her car was gone and that she wasn't there so he proceeded to point and cry. I asked him where he wanted to go and he pointed down the hall, then down the front entry way, out the door, down the steps, down the driveway, to the neighbors, across the street and another house down. It was funny to watch him as I would turn and ask "where now?" he'd think for a second and then give a full arm point in the direction of his choice.

Micah was also in a motorcycle accident today; I wasn't there but my dad was and thankfully there are no serious injuries. I guess he flipped his bike and it landed on top of him. He's in a lot of pain and it took the hospital a few good hours getting all the scrapes cleaned out before he could go home. I am truly thankful for friends, family and guardian angels. Micah's has been working overtime and I can't wait for the day that I can meet him and thank him for keeping my brother in my life. I think it's about time that Micah gives him a break tho ;)

Life as a Nanny :)

Ok, so first off I love my kids and secondly I'd like to give every mother that has helped raise me and anyone else in this world a huge thank you, I don't know how you do it but you're amazing and I just thought I'd let you know (especially my mom).

I was going to get some pictures up of the kids but that will have to wait till a time when I'm more awake.

Last first date in SLC

Some of you may remember me talking about my first date with Kendall, some of you may not, that's not the important part. On February 7th I we went on our first date and well things went from there; I've loved every date and every chance I've had to spend time with him and appreciate it that much more now that I don't get to see him as often as I'd like. *In case you didn't know I moved home for the summer because of job circumstances*
BUT, before I left Salt Lake Kendall took me out on one last date in the city; he practically recreated our first date to a T, down to times and everything minus some extra cuteness :) which I didn't object to in the slightest.

The date started at 7 with a trip to the store to get coconut milk to make curry, we opted out of the mango curry to make Shrimp, Asparagus, 5 Pepper curry which was amazing if I do say so myself. When we headed to the park we were lacking the RC Helicopters that we had 3 months ago but instead revisited all the places we had gone the first time covering the memories and the awkwardness that were no longer there. He even had his jacket for me (again) so I didn't freeze. It was much warmer on this trip but I am the queen of being cold. After the park we went to 7-eleven to test our hot chocolate mixing skills and then made our way to the hospital parking for one of the prettiest views of the city.

Everything was perfect and I loved that he remembered all of the little details. It's going to be a long summer but I know that every time I do get to see him I'll have fun and it'll be a date I remember.

anywho I'm going to the zoo tomorrow! and I need to sleep so I have a chance of waking up tee hee :)

Makeup.... yup I'm really writing a blog about makeup.... wow

I find this slightly sad of myself; I feel like I can't go without makeup... I don't wear that much but I do wear some to even out my skin, get rid of bags and make my eyes look more open etc BUT I wasn't always this way. I spent the first 16 years of my life (thanks Mom) wearing no makeup at all, unless under the circumstance of a play/production, after that I spent the next 2 or so years wearing very little at all and mostly only mascara. In this last year I have started increasing the makeup I wear and getting a little more creative but still I am slightly bothered by this.
Never in my life would I have imagined owning a case to hold my makeup! I now own one and can't fit it all inside due to my eyeshadow collection ( I've collected over 170 different colors which I love but is sick and wrong!) I'm always experimenting with eyeshadow 'designs' and 'patterns' seeing what I can come up with ranging from outright crazy (Leopard print) to natural matte's.
For the most part I try to keep my makeup as close to natural as possible but the days that I don't wear makeup I feel a little uncomfortable and this is sad. It has helped to be doing yard work because there is no logical reason to wear makeup and I've started to feel comfortable in my skin but I'm not back to that yet and I think I need to be. I may just ask one of you to hide my box and make me go 'au naturale'

Random rant; Done!

@ In ! Day!!!! or in other words 2 In 1 Day!!!! :D

I know I already posted today but I just wanted you all to know the minute details of my life, in other words I'm bored and exhausted which makes for a good time when someone need entertaining.... too bad I have no one to entertain....

ANYwho, after working in the Peay's yard all day my foot was giving me more trouble than it's worth so I came home and washed off my tan ;) and then iced my foot while unpacking another box. And now, the reason for this post; drum roll please...... I'm drinking hot chocolate! I think I spent most of the day in almost 90 degree weather in the sun and now I'm drinking hot chocolate.... something is seriously wrong with me!!! Or to be honest I'm just me :)

I'm working on getting a new phone so that I can talk to my boy while I'm home for the summer, it's been two days since I've seen him and I'm going nuts! I knew I would have a hard time with it but I didn't expect it to be this hard. If any of you have some tips to help I'm all ears. And if you have any good/random questions I could ask him that would be good too, I'm trying to come up with a buch of questions to continue getting to know him while I'm gone.

Love to all,
~Kylie Ann

Work work work.... I'm tired!!!

It's only my second day of work and not only do I look horrid but I'm exhausted. The kids are still in school so I'm doing yard work and not loving it but it pays so I'll bite my tongue and keep going. Once the kids are out of school I'll be doing chores with them and then something fun after they've earned it. . . for the one family at least, I don't know exactly what the other family will have me do.

A heads up I guess for the girls and the falls trip....I may or may not be able to go like I thought; it's still in the works but I might be going to Arizona from July to the start of school to Nanny a family there. As soon as I know I'll let you all know and hopefully I can go but if not we have to do something early so I can see you again before the summer is up.

Sorry this is so short but like I said I'm exhausted and my brain is fried.

DIY!!!! I am now A successful D. I. Y. er! :D

So I have ton's of tees that just don't fit, but I have little connections to all of them and can't stand the thought of getting rid of them and letting someone buy it at DI, what if I saw someone wearing one of the shirts I painted.... awkward! So I decided to take matters into my own hands and do some re-sizing.

I started with this an over sized boxy shirt and one that fit me perfectly, pinned them together and traced the smaller shirt. I then pinned and cut the larger shirt to the new patterns and did the same for the sleeves. Once I attached the sleeves I moved on to the side seams and finished her up :) oh and I did all the sewing by hand. It took about 4 hours and I now know how to do it. I suspect that it'll only get better with each one and once I bring my sewing machine up to Salt Lake it'll only take me about 30 min at most to finish each one.

I have tons of things I want to make with all of my old shirts and a couple of revamp projects too :D I'll let you know how they go

First comes Exercise then comes Marriage!!! .... wait WHAT!?! that's not what I meant, I meant to say Eating Healthy! :)

I wasn't paying attention and that's what happened to the title. I'm not engaged so stop freaking out ;)

ANYways, I decided that if I was going to run a marathon or even a 5K for that matter I would need to stop eating Ramen, or at least eat it less,
**Mom, Dad, I heard that gasp, I know you never thought your daughter would fall into the college trap but I did and yeah, I like it (I bought A whole case of it a while back BUT it's ok because I got it for 14c a package)**
and go back to my healthy eating habits from home. So I made a list of things I needed and wanted and went to the store.

Have you ever paid attention to the layout of a store? First they have the bulk items right inside the door for all the food storage junkies and then they have the friendly reminders for men (flowers and big signs reminding you that it is in fact mothers day this Sunday). After that they normally have something to tempt you, things like cookies, doughnuts, other things you really don't need but taste OH SO GOOD!!! But, if you're strong enough to make it past all that you get to the best part of the store, the outside ring. The outside is were you can find all the essentials, Vegetables, Fruits, Meats, Dairy and most of the time Bread/grains. Picture the food pyramid or look at the more recent food diagram, you can satisfy all of those needs without spending an hour going up and down the inside isles! Notice sugars/candy/sweets/fats aren't listed as a seperate need, you can get the healthy sugars from your fruits and fats from your dairy and meats so you don't need the candy bar although I will admit that they are good every once in a while.

When picking breads/grains go WHOLE WHEAT, if you can't decided what to get look at the ingredients, if it says Enriched Flour or Enriched anything put it back, those nutrients aren't naturally there, which means that it's synthetic AND synthetic is practially pre digested food. It does your body no good. If you find two good types of bread, go with the heaver of the two, not only is it more filling but it's not fluff it's real whole wheat bread.

You can't forget your greens, fiber is essential for proper function of your body, if you can't stand them plain sure, add a little dressing or dip but take it easy and try to get a tofu dip or at least one low in fat. Salads are great too, you may be suprised at the assortment of flavors you can find with just vegetables, add some cheese and an assortment of nuts ( my favorites are Flax, Sesame, Sunflower, and Pumpkin seeds and you can't forget the Almonds :) ) Did you know that fresh lemon juice makes a great dressing AND when you put pumpkin seeds with it it kinda tastes like bacon... :D

Fruits! I love fruit! Natural sugars that wake you up and keep you going! One of my favorite breakfasts is Bananas, Strawberries, plain yougurt, granola, and flax seeds. It's filling but not heavy so when I'm having a hard time waking up this gives me the boost I need and doesn't make me feel tired or groggy. Apples also make a perfect snack, when put with cheese (I always use string cheese because it's easier to pack) and almonds you have Sugar, Protien, healthy Fats and carbs, it'll give you the boost you need while getting rid of your hunger and it's light so it WONT make you tired!

With meats just go lean, don't get me wrong it may sound like I'm saying 'don't eat fat!' but I'm not. Cutting all fats from your diet could actually kill you. You need fat but get it in healthy ways not from the pre digested potato chips.

So next time you go to the store start on the outside, get your Grains, vegetables, Fruits, Meats, and Dairy. Then venture to the isles for canned goods and other things like jam, peanut butter, or whatever you may need for cooking but by this time you should have what you need and the other things are not only much more expensive but they're not as pleasing and your cart or basket may already be full or at least should be ;)

Today I spent a little under $40 and I brought home tons of stuff! Not just a few bags full of cereal and pop tarts, I brought home real food! Good, healthy, and might I add happy foods.

I've probably bored you to tears by now and you probably already noticed this about the grocery store but I was excited that in one trip around the outside of the store I got everything on my list and for a good price too. Now with that I'm going running :) Day one of my 8 week 5K program, wish me luck!

Youtube!!!

I received a call from my daddy earlier today and he was all excited about how many views I had on my youtube videos so I thought I'd share the update;

My highest watched video has over 36,000 views.

Overall I've had over 135,800 views collectively. I only have 25 videos so this comes out to around 5,400 views per video, obviously some are well over that and some are well under but still I think it's a huge number.

As of today I have 571 subscribers and 153 'friends'.

I'm pretty excited by this and I never thought it would be possible to see that many views. I'd love to see more and I love watching the views grow, I love knowing that someone is listening to my music and apparently someone likes it too :)

Anyways enough with the random facts about my youtube channel.

BANANA BREAD!!!

So I made my first ever loaf of banana bread and it looks pretty bad but it tastes amazing! The hardest part is waiting for it to cook lol! It takes an hour! way too long for me but totally worth it in the end because I am now enjoying warm, tasty, banana bread.

Loves!
Kylie Ann

ps If you want the recipe it's
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. oil
1 1/2 c. bananas (it's like 2 really over ripe bananas, I only had one good sized one and it worked just fine)
1 1/2 c flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda

mash bananas and mix with first 3 ingredients
in a separate bowl mix last 3 ingredients and slowly add to banana mixture.
bake at 350 for about an hour, bread should have a dark crust.... a really dark crust and you should be able to insert a knife and pull it out clean.

let it cool, slice and serve! or devour on your own ;)

hmmmmm........

I had something very important to tell you all and I can't remember quite what it was.... I knew I should have posted it when I was thinking about it.... darn.

Anyways life is good!
Denise is the funnest roommate ever and I love our little chats and the time we spend together. I encourage her to finish her papers and she encourages me to start mine tee hee :P
Inauguration for ASUU is next week and I'm kinda excited but kinda bummed too because that means I have to start going to meetings and I like being a free kid.
I will be completely finished with this semester next Wednesday and I can't wait!
My fish is still alive but I really need to clean his bowl again.
"you know you've gotta help me out" All These Things I've Done by The Killers
Things are going great with Kendall
I finally got most of the crap off of my bed so I can actually sleep comfortably.
I wore a skirt all day today because it was that beautiful.
I saw Elder D. Todd Christofferson at the temple today .... well I think I was him and I got stuck in the dressing room because of Elder Hales so that was kinda cool.
I just looked up and realized that my closet is really messy.
It's almost 5pm and I haven't finished my paper... I'm not even half way done and I thought I'd be done by now so I need to get back to that but I think I'll stumble for like 10 min first haha!

Someday I will

I was frustrated this morning when I woke up to people yelling/screaming/cheering and police sirens going off. I thought that maybe my crazy neighbors were getting arrested finally for all the noise they cause but alas it was only the marathon. I decided to grab my camera and get some pictures since I wouldn't be able to sleep while this was going and ran... haha ok I didn't run I walked very slowly out to the street and got some shoots, none of them inspiring themselves but eh, I recorded the moment. I was watching them run a little more and I'll be honest I almost started crying, well, I actually did cry.
This was so inspiring to me, to see people running to run, running to prove they could, running for someone who no longer could or would never be able to. Even though it was a temporary thing not being able to run or do sone of ththose many simple things after my surgery felt awful. I would see people running in the park, biking, jumping, climbing, hiking.... I couldn't do any of it and I hated it! I felt so alone and outcasted all of the time. I wanted to jump and cheer when things went well in elections at school but I couldn't, I wanted to feel my heartbeat pounding and hear it in my ears but I didn't know when that would be, some of the littlest things really got to me.
I can run now and I'm getting back to where I used to be a little at a time and it feels great, I feel more alive. Someday I want to run for someone who can't, someday I will run for my grandmothers' battle with MS. Someday I want to run simply because I can! Someday I want to prove to myself that I can and someday I will.

More photos!

I've fallen In love with Black and White photography and these two are from my latest project :DCapo'd Life

Climbing Hands

Sometimes while looking out the window I'll see little things that make me want to jump off the bus to capture it but I've never really gotten images that I've setup and designed from the beginning so it was fun to get some shots in my 'studio' AKA my kitchen table with my black shirts draped around using the window light and directing it through the blinds or turning my subject, high tech, I know ;). Either way I've been having a lot of fun and well I'm starting to develop a passion for it.

With all my love I hope you're all having a fabulous day!

Here we GOOOOOOO!!!!!!

I think I am the master of odd food combination's. Yup, the master. I'm eating cheese and drinking hot chocolate.... yeah, it sounds really gross to me too but I opened my fridge and really wanted cheese and then I saw my mug and really wanted hot chocolate so I gave into myself and had both. YAY!

So lets see.... what's new you ask? Couldn't tell ya, sorry. hehe Just kidding I can tell you all sorts of stuff!
I got my cast off about a week and a half ago and my foot is starting to look normal. I'm getting walking down and hopefully I'll be able to start running again sometime soon, I totally miss running and it gets worse every day because I live right by a park with a nice track :( No worries tho, I'm finding ways to stay positive and putting my focus on school and music since I can't do much else.

What else can I tell you about..... oh, I got a new phone and it's smaller than my old one :D I love small phones, they're easy to hide tee hee.

My photography class is really hard but it's pretty fun too, I'm getting some great shots but I'm really annoyed with the professor and her negative attitude about 'point and shoot' cameras. I wanna walk out half of the time because it seems that's all she wants to talk about... that or white balance, sometimes people like the blue or amber tones in their photos, ever think of that!?

OH, I can tell you lots from this week so here goes;
Micah came up and we went to the Gymnastics meet, TONS of fun! Pretty much I just love my brother.
I haven't been able to spend a lot of time with Ky lately because of school but being the girl that I am I was positive it had something to do with me, I mean I offered to buy him dinner and it was like pulling teeth! Weird! So I asked him about it and he said something to the effect of bla bla bla I value our friendship bla bla bla. So needless to say we're friends. So I was getting kinda bumbed about that when the chance to run for ASUU (student government) came up. I took the position and I will be running as an Assembly canidate with the wicked sweet party of Synergy! yay for me!

Cheers!
